Gettysburg resident asks school board to audit Unity Park grant; district offers follow-up

A Gettysburg resident and Eagle Scout told the Gettysburg Area SD board the district-owned Unity Park needs repair and asked the board to audit a grant he said was awarded to revitalize the site.
Andrew Adam, who said he designed and unveiled Unity Park as his Eagle Scout project and that the site has been district property since 2015, told the board he recently learned Main Street Gettysburg applied for and received a grant to revitalize the park but could not find evidence that work was done. "A grant was awarded on the back of my hard work, Unity Park, and there was no work done to improve or revitalize Unity Park with the grant that was awarded," Adam said, calling the issue one of "transparency" and "integrity." He asked the district to budget for replacements of bushes, flags and interpretive boards and requested an audit of the grant award.
The chair asked for the speaker's contact information so administrators could follow up, and a district staff member replied, "We can arrange for that." The exchange ended with the board thanking the commenter; no formal audit or action was announced at the meeting.
The speaker said the park was unveiled July 5, 2015, and referenced prior conditions of approval tied to specific locations for Alumni Park and Unity Park; he requested the district use or account for grant funds to maintain the park ahead of the nation's 250th anniversary. The board did not take formal action during the meeting but staff agreed to pursue follow-up with the commenter.
