Principal (or lead presenter) Mister Wells and Jen Daniels described regular classroom-community partnerships, parent volunteers, Title I family engagement nights, a Thanksgiving feast in which parents joined students for lunch, and special events such as a Polar Express reading night. They credited teachers and volunteers for organizing events and noted collaborations with Gettysburg College, ACTE, and local preschools.
Presenters highlighted two larger initiatives: a revived school garden project that received community donations of mulch and volunteer labor, and a "One School, One Book" program. The school selected Dogtown by Katherine Applegate as the book for the shared reading project; staff said the selection supports themes of friendship, acceptance and service and will include an associated project with the SPCA.
