Committee approves student travel plans and homeschool requests

The Cumberland School Committee approved several student travel and instruction requests on Nov. 13, voting unanimously to permit overnight travel for student athletic teams and to accept homeschool instruction plans for the 2025'26 school year.
Mr. Crowley described a wrestling trip to the Sanford Spartan Invitational in Sanford, Maine, in January 2026. The trip includes 14 athletes and chaperones; parents provide transport and the event does not require missed school time, he said. The committee approved the wrestling trip on a motion by Miss Shea and second by Miss Smith, 7 to 0.
Mr. Crowley also outlined a girls' ice hockey tournament on Martha's Vineyard Jan. 16—18, 2026, involving a seven-school cooperative and three Cumberland students. Parents will transport their children and the booster club covers most costs. Committee members asked whether a school coach would attend; Mr. Crowley said the school does not provide a coach for the trip and parents will accompany students. The motion to approve the hockey trip passed 7 to 0.
The committee then unanimously approved homeschool instruction requests for the 2025'26 school year on a motion by Miss Feather, seconded by Miss Shea.
