Cumberland honors support professional, highlights Casey's Kicks and cross-country champions

At its Nov. 13 meeting, the Cumberland School Committee named Christina Tomasi the Cumberland School District's 2025 Support Professional of the Year and placed her name on the district's perpetual plaque.
Doctor Thornton introduced Ms. Coughlin to make the presentation. "Christina Tomasi is our 2026 support professional of the year," a presenter said, and the committee thanked Tomasi for her service.
The committee also heard from Miss Shea about Casey's Kicks, a Rhode Island nonprofit that provides shoes to students from pre-K through 12. "Casey's Kicks was inspired by Casey Contrada, a Cumberland High School alumni," Miss Shea said, and she noted that Cumberland had been the nonprofit's largest drop. The presentation emphasized the program's role in fostering belonging and easing financial burdens for families.
Mr. Crowley and coaches recognized several cross-country champions and top performances, naming middle-school and freshman state winners including Kaylee Kerbeck, Cameron Kerbeck and John Stoick, and congratulated coaches for their roles in the season's success.
Those recognitions and community-program presentations occupied the start of the meeting before business moved on to subcommittee reports and votes.
