County adopts 2026 calendar, extends MLK memorial deadline and approves personnel and study items

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — At its Nov. 17 meeting, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners handled routine governance matters including calendar adoption, a time extension for a memorial park project and several personnel and service-agreement actions.
Andrew Tabby, clerk to the board, presented the proposed calendar for 2026; Vice Chairman Jones moved to adopt the calendar and the board approved it unanimously.
The board approved an extension of time for completion of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park SPIRE project with conditions that the project team provide required tax-exempt filings and submit design materials to the City of Fayetteville. Vice Chairman Jones moved to approve the conditions described by staff.
On appointments, the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Parks and Recreation Advisory Council requested the removal of member Antonio Renteria for unexcused absences. Commissioner Patel moved to remove Renteria and the board approved the request unanimously.
As part of utility governance, the board convened as the Overhills Park Water and Sewer District and approved a service agreement with Myers Engineering PLLC for up to $50,000 to conduct a feasibility study exploring potential consolidation or regionalization of the privately held Overhills Water Company; the chairman was authorized to execute the contract.
After a closed session for attorney-client and personnel matters, the board directed the county manager to increase the ABC director’s pay by 6.17 percent; Commissioner Tyson moved the pay adjustment and the board voted unanimously.
What’s next: Staff will record calendar and project-conditional items, execute the Myers Engineering agreement, and process the personnel pay adjustment in payroll.
