Cumberland County commissioners voted Nov. 3 to approve a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City of Dunn to explore and expand water agreements for the northern part of the county.
County Manager Grier introduced the item and said staff would present the MOU and answer questions. Amanda Lee, general manager of natural resources, and Faith Phillips, assistant county manager, were present for the discussion. Commissioners said the MOU advances regional planning for water infrastructure; Commissioner Adams asked that the county include PWC and other neighboring systems in future discussions and cited regional examples where counties and towns merged water systems.
Vice Chair Sheryl Jones moved that the county proceed with the MOU as presented; the board approved the motion unanimously. The chair reminded commissioners that the county has been briefing regional water and sewer steps since a June work session and encouraged commissioners to attend infrastructure committee meetings for more detail prior to board action.
The MOU is intended to facilitate joint planning and expansion of existing agreements; the transcript does not record funding allocations or a detailed engineering plan in this meeting.
