The Cumberland School Committee voted on several routine items during its Oct. 23 meeting.
Policy votes: The committee approved two amended policies. Miss Feather moved passage of G6 (personnel benefit policy aligning nonunit administrative and support personnel salary ranges and sick-day accruals with CTA contracts); the motion passed 7–0. The committee also approved I17, a revised homework policy intended to reduce time expectations for students while preserving practice opportunities; that motion likewise passed 7–0.
Homeschool and program approvals: The committee approved homeschool instruction requests for the 2025–26 school year following a motion by Miss Smith and second; the vote passed 7–0. The committee also approved a district-wide memorandum of agreement to expand the foster-grandparent program (motion by Miss Goldstein, second by Mr. Bacon), which passed 7–0.
Fiscal items: Fiscal subcommittee chair Ms. Smith moved passage of two resolutions (SCPR 10-20-25-140 and SCPR 10-20-25-141) that had cleared fiscal subcommittee 3–0; the committee approved both resolutions 7–0. The committee approved payment of one bill in the amount of $279,868.33 after a motion and second; the motion passed by a seven-zero tally.
Procedural notes: The meeting opened and closed with routine procedural votes; the chair accepted recommended appointments to the district health and wellness committee. Two members recused themselves from PLA discussion earlier in the meeting (Ms. Smith and Mr. Bacon) but participated in these routine votes before or after appropriate disclosure as recorded on the transcript.
What this means: The committee completed standard governance tasks on policies, program agreements and fiscal matters. The more contentious PLA feasibility question was discussed at length later in the meeting and the committee took no action on that item.
