Centennial School Board reads proclamations for Native American and Hispanic Heritage Months

The Centennial School District Board of Directors read two proclamations into the public record at its November meeting, recognizing National Native American Heritage Month and National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Director Linn opened the proclamations, reading Centennial School District Board of Education resolution 2025.2026.0003 formally recognizing November 2025 as National Native American Heritage Month. The resolution notes the region rests on the traditional lands of local tribes and encourages staff, students and community members to observe the month with culturally relevant activities.
The board then read resolution 2025.26.002, retroactively recognizing Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, 2025, as National Hispanic Heritage Month. The resolution calls on staff and schools to celebrate the culture, heritage and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities through lesson plans and activities.
Both proclamations were presented as part of a new practice the board said it would continue: to place short proclamations and acknowledgements on the record and share them through district communications. Printed copies of the proclamations will be posted on the district’s communication channels, the chair said.
The proclamations are ceremonial recognitions and do not by themselves change district policy; the board encouraged schools and staff to consider classroom and community activities that align with the resolutions.
