City OKs $34,000 headstone repairs; project includes 53 new foundations and 20 resets

The Franklin Board on Dec. 1 approved spending approximately $34,000 to complete another round of cemetery headstone repairs, awarding the work to A and H Contracting LLC.
Department head Chip told the board the remaining cemetery budget (the 400 fund) has just over $34,000 available and that contractors were solicited three times but only one quote was received. Chip outlined the scope: the project will include 53 new headstone foundation replacements and 20 resets; he also said the city has fixed about 350 headstones over the past couple of years.
A board member moved to award the quote and the motion was seconded; the board approved the expenditure by voice vote. Staff noted if the work cannot be completed this calendar year the funds can be encumbered and combined with next year’s bid cycle.
The city will document the work and provide records to the clerk-treasurer as part of standard procurement and capital maintenance practices.
