Clatsop County proclaims Jeannie Maddox Petersen Day ahead of Little Ballet Theatre’s 50th Nutcracker

Clatsop County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution proclaiming Dec. 6, 2025, as Jeannie Maddox Petersen Day to honor Petersen’s decades of work as founder of Maddox Dance Studio and artistic director of the Little Ballet Theatre.
Michelle Rogers, a dance teacher at Maddox Dance Studio, and former students described Petersen’s role in founding local dance programs, producing regional performances and mentoring generations of dancers. The proclamation recites Petersen’s career beginning in 1949, her decades of instruction, philanthropic scholarships and her 33 years producing the Miss Oregon pageant.
The board authorized the chair to read and sign the proclamation. Petersen and former students gathered for photos at the dais following the vote.
