Springfield presents 2025 Heritage Awards to Nativity Ukrainian Catholic Church and Lane County Monuments Project

Springfield — The City Council presented its 2025 Springfield Heritage Awards, recognizing the Nativity Ukrainian Catholic Church with a HistoryMaker Award and the Lane County Monuments Project with a Preservation Excellence Award.
Jenna Tribley of the Historic Commission explained that HistoryMaker Awards honor people or organizations with significant stewardship of local heritage while Preservation Excellence Awards recognize specific projects. Mayor Van Gordon read citations for both the Nativity Ukrainian Catholic Church, noted for sustaining Ukrainian cultural life and an annual summer festival, and the Lane County Monuments Project, a partnership that documented 19 historic narratives (including seven in Springfield) and made them available through a digital storytelling initiative.
Councilors and attendees applauded the recipients; the council took photographs and moved on to the meeting’s business.
