Twentynine Palms reports 39 housing permits in 2025 and plans to release vetted ADU plans

The City of Twentynine Palms told the council it has issued permits for 39 dwelling units so far in 2025: 29 single-family homes, five multifamily units and five accessory dwelling units (ADUs). City staff said another 22 units are in the review pipeline.
The community development director said staff are preparing pre-vetted ADU plans (architect-prepared, city-reviewed templates) to help residents avoid the expense and delay of custom architectural plans. City Manager Dr. Stone and staff said those pre-vetted plans would shorten processing time and reduce upfront costs for residents seeking to build ADUs.
Councilmembers welcomed the report and emphasized that the city is not trying to block ADUs; rather, the objective is to facilitate compliance with state law and encourage additional housing supply. Staff noted California’s recent ADU rule changes and described ADUs as smaller units that can house one to a few occupants.
Staff will provide additional details to council as those plans and the pending 22 permit applications proceed through review.
