Clay County state's attorney reports JDAI appointment and new role on open‑meetings task force

He said he was appointed to the State Steering Committee for the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative (JDAI) and attended a JDAI leadership conference in Indiana with other state delegates to observe programming and system design. Smith said the steering committee aims to convene stakeholders and develop programs to expand juvenile diversion and alternatives to detention that can be carried to local levels.
Smith also said he was appointed to an Open Meetings Commission task force and, at the time of reporting, had been named chair of the Open Meetings Commission. He described the task force's work as aiming to reduce ambiguity in open‑meeting laws and said the effort will involve drafting legislation, coordination with the Attorney General's office and eventual work through the legislature.
Smith invited questions and noted he will participate in meetings in Pierre on the task force; commissioners thanked him for the update.
