City, volunteers and Coos Bay SD 9 highlight Millicombe Marsh Trail improvements and grant work

Linda Wursing, public works director for the City of Hughes Bay, told the board the city strongly supports the district’s stewardship of the trail and recalled a prior culvert replacement that improved access and environmental protection. A later presentation by Jamie detailed a multi‑year effort — citing trailhead parking upgrades, two culvert replacements and native plantings — that used local funders and volunteer match alongside an Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) Recreational Trails Program grant application.
Jamie said contractor match work and student‑led projects helped the effort and noted the district has roughly $2,350 remaining in the local project account after recent phases. The board and city emphasized the trail’s educational, recreation and habitat goals and committed to posting trail documents and the PowerPoint to the district website for public access.
No formal vote was required; the board recorded appreciation for volunteers, students and partner agencies and acknowledged pending OPRD reimbursements and final documentation.
