City budget amendment approved; NASwater project delayed to mid next year, official says

The City Council approved a budget amendment Dec. 1 to cover remaining NAS, REM and OEM costs while staff updated members on the NASwater project timeline.
Jason, a city project lead, told the council that an underdrain assembly at the biota treatment plant was found defective. The state water commission convened an independent review and determined the supplier must remove and replace the components. “That report is now done. So it is deemed to be a defective item that the supplier has to remove and replace,” Jason said. He told the council the supplier gave a lead time of “about 38 weeks,” which shifts the schedule into late next year and likely means the city won’t pump water from the project until mid next year.
Staff said the Snake Creek Pump Station should be substantially complete and able to deliver water to the next receiving project early next year, but the defective filters at the treatment plant remain the primary schedule constraint.
Council action: Budget amendment (agenda item 6.19) approved by roll call. Council asked staff to keep the timeline under review and report back as milestones change.
Next steps: Staff will track replacement timelines, coordinate with the state water commission and update council if the schedule changes.
