Trina McLaughlin was sworn in as a member of the Danville Public School Board in a mid‑afternoon ceremony where Danville Circuit Court Clerk Gerald Gibson administered the oath and certified her term through Dec. 31, 2026.
Gibson said, "It is a great honor to give the oath to mister McLaughlin," as McLaughlin raised her right hand and repeated the oath, affirming support for the constitutions of the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
McLaughlin delivered prepared remarks thanking family, volunteers and community supporters and pledging to "uphold that vision with integrity and dedication to every student, family, teacher, staff member, and community partner across our city." She described more than 20 years of local service to Danville Public Schools in roles that include parent, substitute teacher, coach and HR professional and said, "You are the heartbeat of this work and the hope of this city."
The unidentified event host recognized and thanked several people who attended the ceremony, including Superintendent Angela Harrison, McLaughlin's husband Jeff, her pastor Dr. Anthony Pass and her parents, Charles and Denise Montgomery. The host also noted that Mr. Gibson has served as Danville circuit court clerk for 46 years and thanked him for administering the oath.
After the signing/penning portion of the ceremony, Dr. Anthony Pass offered a blessing for McLaughlin, the school board, administrators and teachers and closed the event. Attendees were invited to stay for refreshments following the ceremony.
The swearing-in completed the formal appointment process; McLaughlin now begins her term as a school board member with responsibilities to the Danville Public School Board and the community.
