Lavaca County tax assessor: school district amounts held from first mailing until after election

Deborah A., the Lavaca County tax assessor-collector, told the Commissioners Court on Oct. 27 that the county mailed tax bills but withheld the school district portions for Hallettsville and Moulton Independent School Districts from the first mailing because final school tax rates are not yet set after the election. She said the county will mail separate bills for those ISD amounts once the school districts adopt rates.
When asked about the due date for the separate school tax bills, the assessor stated the school taxes would be due Jan. 31; another participant briefly interjected that they would be due Jan. 1, and the assessor then reiterated that staff do not yet have the final tax rate because of the election and will set the mailing and due-date schedule after rates are finalized.
The court did not provide additional details about the timing of the second mailing or the method for notifying taxpayers beyond the assessor’s statements. Residents in Hallettsville and Moulton ISDs should expect a separate tax statement for those school portions after the election, according to the assessor.
