Fridley board approves nearly $3.9 million in bids for middle school renovations

Rochelle, the district project lead, told the board: "For general contractor bids, it's Vericom Incorporated. Mechanical is Craft Mechanical. Electrical is Retrofit, and controls is UHL." The controls bid was a single submission; staff said UHL was the only bidder for that scope.
Board member Ross moved approval of the recommended awards listing the amounts presented by staff: Vericom Incorporated (general contractor) $2,393,000; Craft Mechanical $1,222,900; Retrofit Company $208,000; and UHL $73,250. The motion was seconded by Stark and passed by voice vote.
Rochelle said project management and bid review found the low bidders to be local firms with positive experience working with the district and with the district's project-management team. Board members asked about vendor experience and staff confirmed familiarity either through prior district work or through the district's project-management partner.
The board packet includes full bid tabulations and staff said contract documents and next steps for construction scheduling will follow the board's approval. Staff characterized the work as closing out summer projects and preparing for the 2026 construction timeline.
The board approved the bids during the business meeting after the staff presentation; the item required no further amendments at the time of the vote.
