The Tangipahoa Parish Council on Nov. 24 unanimously approved a series of ordinances, budgets, road contracts and commercial site plans, including the surplus sale of a two-acre parcel in Tickfaw to Sammy's Body Shop Inc.
Council members voted 9-0 to adopt the minutes of Nov. 10 and to approve the 2026 Section 8 payment standards required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which the council said will take effect Jan. 1, 2026.
The council awarded the low bid for the West Mulberry Street extension to Warner Construction of Franklinton for $1,192,595 and approved a $1,367,350 low bid to Arbor Construction of Baton Rouge for Hoover Road widening Phase 21A; both approvals were reported as contingent on state approval or state capital outlay funding. The council also approved a change order for the new Loranger Library branch that increases the contract by $40,725.87; the library has funds and architect approval for the change.
In land- and planning-related actions, the council adopted TP Ordinance 25-38 to surplus and authorize sale of a two-acre parcel in Tickfaw to Sammy's Body Shop Inc. and approved Resolution 25-43, the commercial site development plan for Prestige Autoplex LLC at 12528 Highway 190 W in Hammond (District 6). Councilmember Mayhew moved approval of the Prestige Autoplex plan "contingent to DEQ EPA regulations and all state regulations," and the motion passed on a 9-0 roll call. The council likewise approved Resolution 25-44 for True Motors LLC (District 1) and waived a two-times civil nuisance fee for a property on Mickey Nikopola Lane in Tickfaw, authorizing collection of actual service costs.
The council introduced several ordinances for public hearing on Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m., including an ordinance to reduce the speed limit on Lee's Lane (District 5) to 25 mph and the Tangipahoa Parish Library Board of Control's 2026 operating budget. The council also introduced ordinances updating planning code language on allowable plants for stormwater areas and replacing "jurisdictional determination" language for wetlands with a requirement for wetland delineation by an environmental specialist; those changes were recommended by the DRC.
Other routine approvals included accepting roads in Savannahs Phase 1 and Silver Hill Phase 3 (both in District 2) into the parish maintenance system after inspections and approving two beer and liquor permits for Nash Discount Tobacco and Meat Market. All recorded roll-call votes reported in the meeting were 9-0.
The meeting adjourned after a brief period of council privileges and condolences for a member's family loss.
