North Providence recognizes CTE director Melissa Caffrey and reviews state test results

The North Providence School Committee recognized Mrs. Melissa Caffrey, director of multiple pathways at North Providence High School, after the district announced she was selected for the 2026 Project Lead The Way Outstanding Administrator award, one of nine given nationwide. The committee presented a citation honoring her administrative leadership and Caffrey credited teachers, mentors and the community while accepting the award.
In a subsequent presentation, Ms. Seitzinger (joined by Ms. Van Avery) gave a district-level overview of state assessment results and accountability metrics. She reported RICAS results of approximately 31% of students meeting or exceeding expectations in English language arts and about 21% meeting or exceeding in math, noting those results were similar to the prior year. Presenters highlighted specific school improvements — for example, Centerdale showed an 11 percent improvement in math and Maguire showed an 8 percent increase in math — and discussed subgroup growth for students with disabilities and multilingual learners. The presenters said the district will continue focusing on math achievement and closing equity gaps through school and district action plans.
The committee thanked the presenters; no policy changes were proposed during the meeting.
