The Glen Ridge Public School District board announced a formal timeline for its superintendent search and confirmed that the position has been posted internally and externally.
During the president’s report the board said it ‘‘appointed Missus Winnie Kivett, our director of track knowledge and curriculum, as our acting superintendent’’ and extended that appointment through June 30, 2026. The board said it has already received the first two resumes and that the job posting is available on glenridge.org under the superintendent-search tab.
The board read a timeline of next steps: the personnel committee will begin reviewing applicants on Nov. 10, the committee will conduct first-round interviews and the reorganized full board will hold final-round interviews between Jan. 6 and Jan. 27, 2026. Finalists will undergo reference checks and must receive approval of the proposed employment contract from the executive county superintendent of schools in Essex County before the board can vote on the contract; the board said this clearance is a New Jersey legal requirement.
The board explained its current decision not to engage a private search firm, citing prior experience and cost and timing considerations, but said it reserves the right to hire an external firm if applicant yield is insufficient while keeping the timeline for a July 1 start. The board also said all finalists will be subject to criminal background checks and additional vetting consistent with state law.
Residents asked whether the recent leadership turmoil would dampen applicant interest. The board acknowledged that every search is different and said interview questions and vetting may be adjusted to probe candidates’ experience dealing with challenges. The board named the personnel committee members as Jocelyn, Anthony (chair), Darius Sinon and the president and said community input (surveys and focus groups) will be reviewed and may be used again.
Next steps: the board will accept applications through the posted closing date (the board indicated Nov. 10 as a key date for personnel committee activity), review survey and focus-group feedback from the prior search, and return to the public with updates during subsequent meetings.
