Council issues proclamations, honors nonprofits and recognizes officers

The Nov. 13 Summerville Town Council meeting opened with several proclamations and community recognitions.
Council read a proclamation declaring November 2025 as Homelessness Awareness Month, noting the 2024 PIT count and recognizing Keys to Change for providing transitional housing and opening a new men's facility funded by state, county and town capital funds. The council also proclaimed November as Native American Heritage Month, highlighted the local Wausau/Wausau Scribe tribal community's role in preserving cultural traditions, and named 11/29/2025 as Small Business Saturday to promote local commerce.
In addition, the council recognized Help of Somerville on its 50th anniversary and proclaimed 11/03/2025 as Help of Somerville Day, thanking volunteers and donors for emergency assistance services. The Dignity Project presented awards honoring Somerville police officers for instances of community service and empathy; nominations read into the record included accounts praising Officer Eric Stewart and Officer Richard Crist for compassion and positive interactions with residents and youth.
Attendance and congratulations for re-elected council members were noted at the meeting start. The recognition items were passed by voice vote and no formal objections were recorded.
