During the council’s Budget & Finance report, Councilmember Hamner introduced three items and called public hearings for Nov. 19, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.
The first is an ordinance authorizing Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government to acquire movable property identified as lots 1B, 2B, 3A1 and 3A2 of Block 2 of the Southdown Industrial Park Subdivision and authorizing the Parish President or the Chief Administrative Officer to execute necessary documents.
The committee also introduced an ordinance to amend the 2025 adopted operating budget with a set of 5% adjustments that included a $653,213 increase for the Parish Prisoners Fund; a $15,000 reduction for roads and bridges; and several adjustments for road lighting districts (both positive and negative amounts were listed for districts 1, 5, 6, 7 and 9). Separately, the committee introduced a budget amendment to add $162,567 for flood mitigation assistance.
Motions to introduce these ordinances and call public hearings were approved by voice vote; the transcript records the committee’s motions as passing 5-0.
Why it matters: The property-acquisition ordinance would allow the parish to obtain specific parcels in Southdown Industrial Park for future use; the budget amendments reallocate funds across several accounts including a sizable increase to the Parish Prisoners Fund and a dedicated flood mitigation assistance allocation. Each item will be vetted in the Nov. 19 public hearings before any final appropriation or acquisition is authorized.
What’s next: The council will hold the scheduled public hearings on Nov. 19, 2025. If the ordinances are advanced after hearing and subsequent readings, the parish will proceed with acquisition steps and budget adjustments as approved by the council.
