The Terrebonne Parish Council voted to introduce an ordinance to dedicate the Hancock Whitney Bank building in honor of the late Don Schwab and to amend the parish code to reflect the new name. Councilmember Kevin Champine presented the motion during the community development and planning committee report and asked the council to call a public hearing on Nov. 19, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. The motion to introduce the ordinance and set the hearing passed 5-0.
Why it matters: Renaming a municipal facility requires code changes and a public hearing so residents can comment. The proposed name — the Don Schwab Center for Business and Government — would be adopted into the Terrebonne Parish code if the ordinance moves forward after the hearing.
What was said: Kevin Champine said the committee recommended introduction of the ordinance and the public hearing. The council formally moved and approved the introduction by voice vote.
What’s next: The council will hold the public hearing on Nov. 19, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., where members of the public may comment before the council decides whether to advance the ordinance to later readings or adoption.
