Board discusses forming fine-arts and activities committees to manage PAC and athletics issues
Summary
Board members agreed to form ad hoc fine-arts and activities/athletics committees to improve communication around PAC use and events; volunteers were identified and staff cautioned to preserve administrative chains for grievances.
The Tea Area board debated establishing two new ad hoc committees—one focused on fine arts and the other on athletics/activities—to help plan and manage the new performing arts center (PAC) and athletic events.
Speaker 1 opened the added agenda item, saying the goal was not to add staff work but to provide a board-level forum for planning and consistent standards for facility use. Supporters said committees could improve communication and provide clear points of contact for community members; critics warned committees should not circumvent administrators or coaches and urged a careful chain-of-command when grievances arise.
Volunteers were named during the discussion. Speaker 1 said Kristen and he would serve on the fine-arts committee and that Jay and Chad would serve on athletics/activities; student representatives may also be included. Staff indicated Brooke Lehi is the PAC coordinator and will be involved in facility guidelines, and administrators stressed the need to route operational issues through coaches and building administrators first.
Board members asked staff to continue development of committee scope and to bring a process back to the board for how often committees would meet and how they would coordinate with administrators.
