The Eaton County sheriff reported a string of November incidents and arrests during the Dec. 4 Board of Commissioners meeting, highlighting an arrest tied to multiple assault warrants and suspected narcotics, a serious roadway crash and several other enforcement actions.
The sheriff said deputies stopped a vehicle on Nov. 2 and arrested a passenger who carried nine outstanding warrants across jurisdictions and that suspected narcotics recovered were sent to the crime lab for analysis. He described a Nov. 6 two-vehicle collision on Canal just south of Northport in which one driver suffered significant head injuries and was transported to Sparrow Hospital by EMS. The department also investigated an altercation at the Waverly Party Store that involved a CPL holder and an attempted theft of the firearm. Officers recovered evidence and sent it to the crime lab.
Other incidents noted included assistance to Clinton County for the arrest of three occupants after a vehicle stop, multiple breaking-and-entering arrests tied to vehicle surveillance, a felony assault involving a hammer, a suicidal welfare check that resulted in transport to Community Mental Health, and a series of arrests for fleeing and eluding and drug possession. The sheriff also recounted an indecent exposure arrest at Mount Hope Park and a residence crash in which a vehicle struck a home.
Commissioner Christensen praised deputies who helped a homeless family by paying for a night—s motel accommodation and asked whether the county operates warming centers. Emergency Manager Ryan Wilkinson responded that Eaton County does not maintain county-run warming centers and typically relies on cities, villages and townships to open local warming facilities; the county promotes and supports those local efforts. The sheriff reported the jail averages about 170—180 inmates daily against a capacity of 374.
