The Douglas Unified School District board approved several memoranda of understanding and cooperative agreements intended to expand curriculum and student services.
The board approved an MOU with WestEd to pilot an integrated statistics and quantitative‑reasoning course at Douglas High School. Staff described the work as a pilot to integrate quantitative reasoning with statistics and to develop lesson plans with partners including the Dana Center and Gates Foundation; two students will participate on advisory panels to provide feedback during the pilot year.
Board members also approved an amendment to the district's regional cooperative agreement with Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and Blind. The superintendent described vouchering and described per‑day funding levels in the agreement: approximately $42 per day for students eligible for hearing‑impaired services and $50 per day for students with multiple disabilities, with the latter not to exceed $9,000 (as described by staff).
The board approved two separate MOUs to provide applied behavior analysis services for designated ESS students, one with Positive ABA and another with Total Care ABA. Administration said these contracts are intended to provide therapy where local specialists are not available; board members requested follow-up on referral and recommendation procedures tied to IEP and ESS processes.
Finally, the board approved a no‑cost MOU with Cochise Chess to pilot after‑school chess activities at Rayburn Middle School on an early‑release day schedule (Wednesdays 1–3 p.m.) with the intent to expand if successful. The presenter said the partner supplies chess kits and the program will begin as a pilot limited by the partner's capacity.
