The Terrebonne Parish Budget & Finance Committee voted to rescind a condemnation order for a residence at 1414 Keith Street and to amend the demolition deadline for structures at 228 Dixie Avenue.
At the start of the meeting the chair introduced a motion to rescind the condemnation order adopted Feb. 27, 2023, for the property identified as 1414 Keith Street, the home of Michael J. Arment Sr. The motion was moved by Mister Babin and seconded by Mister Pledger and was recorded as passing by an affirmative vote (7-0 reported by the chair during the committee session).
The committee then took up an amendment to a separate condemnation order originally adopted July 29, 2025, affecting residential and accessory structures at 228 Dixie Avenue, Houma, Louisiana, owned by Monica Lorena Kano Solano. The proposed change shifts the deadline to complete demolition or removal of the structures from Aug. 29, 2025, to Jan. 27, 2026. Mister Babin moved the amendment; Mister Pledger seconded; the motion passed following the council vote.
Committee members asked clarifying questions about the scheduling and staffing of condemnation hearings and whether the parish’s planning partners would be involved in combined hearings. Staff said scheduling and the number of condemnation hearings per quarter depend on contract and program income availability and that decisions about combining hearings with planning will be made when the pertinent contracts are in place.
The committee did not amend the underlying substantive authority for condemnation during the session; the votes recorded were procedural actions to rescind a prior order and to change the compliance deadline for the 228 Dixie Avenue matter. The decisions take effect as recorded in the committee minutes and will be reflected in any subsequent full council agenda or public notices.
