Spearfish trustees approve special meeting, appoint legal counsel and pass routine business

The Spearfish School District 40-2 board on Monday approved a special board administration retreat for Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m., appointed Eric Meece as the district’s legal counsel, approved the consent agenda (including addendum), accepted minutes for Oct. 14 and Oct. 27 and approved financial reports and bills.
A trustee moved and the board seconded the motion to appoint "Eric Meece, the Spearfish School District legal counsel," which the board approved by voice vote. During discussion trustees clarified that special-education work likely will remain with existing counsel when appropriate and that Mr. Meece would use a Sioux Falls–based special-education specialist by separate engagement as needed.
The meeting included no roll-call vote with named tallies recorded in the transcript; approvals were taken by voice vote after motions and seconds. The board adjourned following approval of the financial items.
