Sharyland ISD board approves consent items, library purchases and contracts including $67,200 pre-K coaching and $55,008 GPS services

The Sharyland ISD Board of Trustees approved a slate of consent items and individual contracts during its regular meeting, voting unanimously (6–0) on each open-motion item.

Key approvals included:

- Library materials procurement: Administration presented a curated list of 705 titles that had been posted on the district website for the required 30-day comment period with no objections; the board approved purchase of the listed titles.

- Region 1 pre-K coaching contract: To meet state mentoring requirements for 11 pre-K teachers (each requiring 15 coaching hours), the district will contract with Region 1 for individualized coaching at a cost of $67,200. Administration said early childhood allotment funds will cover the expense.

- CalAmp Synovia GPS services: The board ratified a five-year cooperative contract for vehicle GPS tracking with CalAmp Synovia for $55,008.36; administration said growth in the fleet (additional buses and vehicles) pushed the expenditure above the district’s typical $50,000 threshold.

- Consent motions and routine items: The board approved month-end bills, the first-quarter investment report, the previous meeting minutes, and out-of-state travel requests previously posted in the consent agenda; two consent items (12E maximum class-size exception and 12F district of innovation opt-out items) were pulled for discussion and approved separately.

- Class size exception and district of innovation opt-out: The board approved a maximum class-size exception (two Benson fourth-grade classes moving from 22 to 23) and approved a district-of-innovation action to opt out of certain grievance requirements under recent SB 12 changes, preserving the district’s standard grievance process. Both actions passed 6–0.

Motions were moved and seconded by board members on the record for each item; no dissenting votes were recorded in the meeting minutes.
