DSS: SNAP allotments likely delayed in November; county has more than 22,000 recipients

Randolph County Department of Social Services staff told commissioners on Nov. 3 they had received late notice that SNAP allotments for November could be delayed and possibly partial due to federal funding uncertainty.
"We received an email that our citizens who receive SNAP benefits would receive a benefit in November. That benefit is going to be delayed, and it will not be the full benefit," Tracy (DSS) said. She added she had "heard 50% of the actual benefit would be received sometime in November" but that she had not yet seen written notice. Tracy said the county has "more than 22,000" citizens who receive SNAP benefits and that many recipients have $20 or less left on their cards.
Tracy urged residents with recertifications due to continue to submit paperwork and noted vendors remain able to accept existing benefits. She said Department of Social Services remains open for business and will continue to process applications and recertifications.
Tara (WIC) told the board WIC funding was currently in place through November and participants could spend benefits as usual; she recommended maintaining normal spending patterns so available funds last.
DSS staff and commissioners discussed timing estimates from regional partners that suggest it could take about 10 days after an administrative restart for benefits to reach recipients.
Next step: DSS will update the commission as federal guidance and disbursement schedules are clarified and maintain a public list of resources for residents.
