North Providence council handles routine tax, committee and parking items; approves new town seal

North Providence 'At its regular meeting, the Town Council approved a redesigned town seal, handled routine tax matters and committee referrals, and sent several items for committee review.
Communications Director Ralph Nahigan presented a digitized, color version of the town seal; Councilman DiLorenzo moved to approve the new design and the council adopted it that evening. Council heard a lengthy discussion about upgrades to the council chamber's sound system and learned an unofficial quote to address room acoustics and install acoustic panels was about $32,000; staff said installation would likely take a couple of months.
On financial items, councilors voted to send tax addenda over $1,000 (totaling $161,727.44 for tangibles) and tax abatements over $1,000 ($13,756.17 for real estate and $28,509.19 for tangibles) to the finance committee. The council approved smaller tax addenda and abatements under $1,000 (listed amounts $598.07 and $828.02) on the floor.
Other administrative actions included approving a poll location on Timber Street for upcoming elections, referring a no-parking request for Ferncliff Street to the ordinance committee after a recommendation from Chief Regerio, and referring a proposal to consider naming something after longtime community member G. Richard Foster to the public service committee. The proposed sale of Our Lady of Fatima Hospital was continued to the November meeting.
The ordinance committee report was accepted as submitted and the council adjourned.
