Oak Grove board welcomes inaugural FFA chapter and recognizes Little League Super Bowl champions

The Oak Grove R-VI board formally welcomed the district's first FFA chapter and recognized visiting fourth-grade Little League Super Bowl champions during public recognition at the start of the meeting.

Jamie Donovan, the FFA advisor, introduced the chapter's officers and described program components including SAEs (supervised agricultural experiences) that require students to log a minimum of 20 hours per semester (40 per year). Student officers who introduced themselves included Maryann Smith (president), Kaylee Reynolds (secretary), Alexis, Adeline (treasurer), Perissa (historian), Ava Marie (vice president), Kaden (parliamentarian) and Katie (chairman).

Donovan outlined SAE examples — floral sales, livestock showing, small entrepreneurial projects and small-engine repair — and said the chapter plans a chartering ceremony Dec. 2 to recognize officers, award Greenhand degrees and host a state-level FFA representative. Students plan fundraising activities (including a poinsettia sale) and outreach to middle-school students for recruitment.

Board members congratulated the students and coaches, and coaches in attendance offered brief remarks praising the team and the program. There was no formal board action required for the recognition items.

The ceremony and officers were presented as part of broader efforts to expand career and leadership programming at Oak Grove High School.
