The department representative said the vehicle was included in the 2026 budget and that buying locally meant warranty service could be completed in town, reducing crew downtime.
"We don't have to travel and send an employee half an hour away to have it serviced while it's under warranty," the Water & Sewer representative said, describing local service as a material operational advantage.
Council members asked about current fleet counts and the cost of racks and lights; staff said upfitting for safety lights and a pipe/ladder rack would add roughly $2,500–$3,500. The council approved the purchase and directed staff to draw funds from the municipal equipment reserve and to replicate the equipment-reserve repayment approach used for a previous police vehicle.
Implementation: Public Works will procure the vehicle, schedule upfitting and surplus older vehicles as appropriate. Staff said they will include equipment-upgrade budgeting in next-year planning to standardize replacement costs.
