Council rezones north side of Jasper Avenue to allow single-family lots; unanimous vote

The Xenia City Council voted unanimously on Oct. 9 to amend the official zoning map and rezone all properties fronting the north side of Jasper Avenue from V1 Convenience Business District to R1C One-Family Residential.
City Manager Henry said the city is selling vacant lots on Jasper Avenue to a builder planning to construct single-family homes; that use is currently not allowed under the V1 designation and the rezoning would permit the sales and development. The city opened a public hearing and, after hearing no public comment, closed the hearing and moved to a vote.
Councilman Crawford moved the rezoning for passage; Councilwoman Sarris seconded. A roll call produced unanimous ayes (Mayor Will Urschel; Councilmen Reynolds, Crawford, Propst/Prokes, Walker; Councilwoman Sarris; President Smith), and the motion carried. The ordinance was introduced previously on Sept. 25 by Councilman Crawford.
The change will allow a builder to develop the parcels as single-family homes under the R1C standard; staff said the city is preparing to proceed with sale and subsequent permitting under the revised zoning classification.
