Doctor Campos Fitzy read the School Psychology Week proclamation, emphasizing school psychologists’ role in mental health supports and multi-tiered interventions that reduce barriers to learning. Kristen Arnold, the district’s lead school psychologist, accepted the proclamation and introduced several district psychologists by name.
The board also approved a proclamation recognizing education support professionals, with Joaquin Morado, classified council president, accepting the honor and listing groups such as paraprofessionals, transportation, kitchen and custodial staff.
In a separate action, the board approved the district evaluation council membership required by state law (the 13-38 evaluation council). Annette Overton and Dr. Matthew Thompson presented the proposed roster and said there are currently no required changes from the state. Thompson described the council’s ongoing work: reviewing measures of student learning, ensuring the evaluation handbook meets accessibility requirements, and clarifying median growth percentile measures.
