Council approves sheriff funding, abandons WFHI road maintenance and partners with DNR on derelict-vessel removals

Colleton County Council voted unanimously on three resolutions during its Dec. 1 meeting.
Resolution 25R-68 authorized the county administrator to expend funds for the Colleton County Sheriff—s Office for E-911 backup center batteries, a dispatch backup battery and a CDR training course. The chair called for the motion, it was seconded and the vote carried unanimously.
Resolution 25R-69 would abandon county maintenance of certain roads on property owned by Weyerhaeuser Forest Holdings, Inc. A council member asked about ensuring continued access to a cemetery on the affected property; staff pointed to a paragraph in a provided letter stating access would be retained. The council moved, seconded and approved the resolution unanimously.
Resolution 25R-70 authorized a partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to assist with removal of derelict, abandoned and sunken vessels under South Carolina Code of Laws, Title 50, Chapter 21, Article 2. The motion to adopt the resolution was seconded and carried unanimously.
The council then moved into executive session to discuss confidential economic development matters identified in the record as Project Triple Play, Project Badger/Project Boulder/Project Blue Bell (names as recorded) and returned to open session before adjourning. No formal, public action on those projects was disclosed during the meeting.
