Socorro ISD board approves proclamations for Principals Month, Generation Texas and Red Ribbon Week; honors staff and retirees

The Socorro Independent School District Board of Trustees on Oct. 28 approved three proclamations recognizing Principals Month, Generation Texas Month and National Red Ribbon Week, and paused the meeting to honor employee achievements and retirements.
Assistant superintendents Jennifer Trejo and Carlos Guerra introduced the Principals Month proclamation, describing principals as "visionary leaders for teachers and staff." The board approved the proclamation (motion recorded as moved by Ms. Garlia and seconded by Mr. Smith) with the motion passing. Monica Dominguez, interim director of school counseling, introduced Generation Texas Month; Maite Flores, a sophomore at Eastlake Falcon Early College High School, read the proclamation and trustees voted to approve it.
Dominguez also presented the Red Ribbon Week proclamation (Oct. 23–31, 2025), which honors the legacy of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena and promotes campus drug‑prevention activities. Trustees approved the proclamation (motion by Ms. Macias, second by Ms. Garcia). During that item staff noted district partnership to display a large community banner arranged with Carlos Abriano of the DEA and maintenance staff who installed it.
The board’s special presentations included recognition of employee winners in the 2025 SISD employee art show and commendations for Pebble Hills High School football coaches and an athletic trainer who performed CPR during a practice emergency. Daniel Escobar, chief communications officer, presented an extended list of district employees retiring during the 2024–25 school year; staff and trustees invited honorees forward for photos and thanked them for decades of service.
The meeting then moved into a workshop on employee benefits. No policy changes were adopted during the recognitions and proclamation items.
