Seventh grader Kylie Dahl honored with 'Kylie Dahl Day' proclamation and school showcase

Seventh grader Kylie Dahl spoke at the Red Wing Public School District board meeting after being invited by Twin Bluff Middle School Principal Patrick Beerman. Beerman read a mayoral proclamation (issued by Mayor Gary Ako) recognizing Kylie’s essay and declaring a day in her honor; he said the mayor will also read the proclamation over the school intercom later in the week.

Kylie described how she learned she won the mayor‑for‑a‑day essay — she said her phone initially blocked unknown numbers, so she missed early messages — and recounted attending a city council meeting, riding in a fire truck and being featured in community events. "I was really shocked," Kylie said when describing being told she was the winner (Kylie Dahl, SEG 059–061). She told the board her favorite class is art and that she hoped other students would be inspired to enter the contest next year.

Principal Beerman and board members asked Kylie questions about her experience, and the board requested a copy of her essay to read. The meeting concluded the showcase with a certificate presentation and a group photo.
