Board members noted national and state data showing rising youth mental‑health needs and praised the program as one of several district strategies to reduce emergency interventions and improve student wellness. Member Combs cited evidence that such programs can reduce Baker Act incidents, suicidal ideation and other crisis indicators while supporting academic outcomes.
The motion to approve the Charlie Health contract (C301) passed unanimously. District staff said program implementation will coordinate with school mental‑health teams and existing supports; no specific budget figures for the contract were discussed in the board remarks recorded in the meeting.
The board’s approval authorizes district staff to finalize the contract and proceed with implementation in coordination with principals, school psychologists and families for students who meet program criteria.
