Princeton wins open-space grant, readies community center events

At the Dec. 1 meeting, town officials announced several community grants and events. Town officials also thanked Lowe’s Home Improvement for a $2,500 hometown grant and for donating materials and wood used to build the new board chamber desk.
Town staff said the Princeton Community Center is complete; officials invited residents to a ribbon-cutting on Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. and noted the annual tree lighting set for the next evening at 6:30 p.m. Officials also reported the town has applied to the North Carolina DOT sidewalk grant program, which offers approximately $14 million statewide for sidewalks and is targeted at towns with populations under 5,000.
Why it matters: The grants will fund local parks and pedestrian improvements and reduce the town’s out-of-pocket costs for facility repairs and amenities. The community center opening and holiday events are near-term opportunities for public engagement.
