TTSD bond program moves toward contractor selection; community engagement underway for Fowler and playground projects

Director Montag told the board the bond program has been busy in October and is nearing a selection for the construction management/owner’s representative; the district hopes to issue a letter of intent this week and bring a contract to the board for approval at a future meeting. "We're hoping to be able to issue a letter of intent to award this week and bring that to the board for approval at the next board meeting," Montag said.

Montag reviewed project work: land‑use approval and a voluntary neighborhood meeting were completed for lights at Tuality field (neighbors present and supportive, with noise as a primary concern and an assurance lights would shut down in line with local ordinances). The Fowler project has begun community engagement (Montag reported about "18 or 20 community members") and the project team is refining scope and safety concerns. The district is advancing phase‑one environmental studies, site surveys and contracts and has procured traffic and electrical engineering services for site work.

Playground planning will involve civil engineers to address drainage issues (noting past surprises when replacing asphalt) and the district is working toward common accessible playground design templates that individual school communities will adapt. Montag also said restroom renovations at both high schools are in design and the team is trying to package some work to save costs.

Board members thanked Montag for advancing the preconstruction work and raised material considerations (one director argued for wood chips rather than some artificial surfacing, citing microplastics and PFAS concerns). Montag noted close coordination with local jurisdictions and an expected June construction start next summer for major projects.
