The Town of Princeton’s Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Dec. 1 to adopt an amendment to the Code of Ordinances establishing a no-parking zone on East Edwards Street through East 3rd Street.
Officials said the change narrowed an earlier draft that had extended to the ballpark; the adopted version stops at East 3rd because the town concluded the segment between East Edwards and East 3rd has curb-and-gutter and is too narrow for large trucks to pass safely when vehicles are parked. A presiding official explained the safety concern, noting that some parked vehicles force larger trucks to cross the yellow line to get through.
The board reviewed an updated map attached to the ordinance and then took a vote. A motion to adopt the ordinance was made, seconded and passed, 4-0.
Why it matters: The change targets traffic safety on a narrow town street used by larger trucks and by school or municipal buses; local enforcement of the new parking restriction will affect residents who currently park along that corridor.
What’s next: The town will implement the ordinance according to its Code of Ordinances; staff said they had discussed the matter with the state Department of Transportation and updated the ordinance map before final adoption.
