District presents 2026–28 instructional calendars; board asks for clearer survey data

Assistant superintendent Jacob Ayers presented proposed instructional calendars for 2026–27 and 2027–28, saying the Instructional Calendar Development Committee (which included district staff, union representatives, board members and parents) modeled the proposals on the last two years and solicited stakeholder feedback. The calendars provide 180 student days and 196 teacher days, preserve six early‑release professional days and include three weather‑makeup strategies.
Ayers said stakeholder outreach produced 688 responses that staff will post to BoardDocs and provide to board members. Board members asked that the survey data be provided in a spreadsheet rather than a PDF for easier analysis. Members discussed Veterans Day (staff noted the district historically keeps students in school for Veteran observances and asked staff to improve secondary classroom engagement), start‑date preferences and the programmatic impacts of early‑release days.
Ayers said the district will continue an annual approval cycle but will provide calendars two years in advance to help families plan. The board agreed to leave one altered calendar under development for a specific school and return both for final approval in January.
