Tangipahoa Parish finance staff provided the board with a routine monthly budget update and explained recent sales-tax results that strengthen near-term revenue outlook.
Mister McNeely told trustees the district's fiscal year began July 1 and the packet covers two months (through Aug. 31). He said the general fund snapshot and departmental views allow board members to see salaries and benefits by department; no board action was required on the budget items.
On sales tax, McNeely said the EFA half-penny (earmarked locally) showed an unusually strong month — the October report (reflecting September sales) was up 15.6% — and the local 2¢ sales tax was up 13.6% for the month and about 7.5% year to date. He attributed part of the monthly spike to the timing of quarterly taxpayer payments and to state changes capturing online sales that previously flowed to other states.
Board members welcomed the positive revenue news while noting that multi-month trends are more informative for budgeting than an early-year two-month snapshot.
