Council approves added design work and purchases for two playground projects, funded by grants

Parks Director Scott Savigny asked the council to approve a $5,200 change order to GZA to add design services for Harris Playground so both Quinick and Harris projects can be bid together. Savigny said combining the projects would allow the town to add Harris as a bid alternate and potentially reduce mobilization and paving costs. "What if we try and get both of them bid out at the same time?" he said, explaining the scheduling rationale.
Council then approved a $49,584 purchase of playground equipment for Giblin Memorial Park, financed in part by a GameTime Community Grant that covers approximately half the cost. Savigny said equipment and installation fit the capital budget and that the town has secure storage until installation in 2026. Council members pressed staff about procurement windows and installation warranties; Savigny said the quote is currently valid and installation is included in the overall project budget.
Council passed the resolutions for both actions by unanimous vote. Members advised close contract oversight of vendors and requested staff set and monitor schedule milestones to ensure grant deadlines are met and projects proceed in time for next summer construction windows.
