South Gate City Council issues proclamations honoring records staff, Key Club Week and Marine Corps Day

At a special meeting, the South Gate City Council issued three proclamations recognizing local service on and around Veterans Day.

Mayor Maria Davila read a proclamation declaring November 10 through 14, 2025, as Law Enforcement Records and Support Personnel Appreciation Week, saying the city honors the work of records staff who help maintain criminal statistics, assist investigations and keep departments running. "Congratulations and thank you for the work that you, ladies, do," the mayor said while presenting the proclamation.

Lieutenant Chavez, who identified himself as the supervisor of the records bureau, thanked the unit for its day-to-day contributions to the department’s effectiveness. "You make us look great and I appreciate everything that you do," he said, describing how he routinely seeks the bureau’s guidance and expertise.

The council also proclaimed Nov. 3–7, 2025, as National Key Club Week, recognizing local Key Club chapters sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Vice Mayor Baron noted the clubs’ long history of community service — citing a charter date of March 3, 1947 for one chapter — and said the groups run monthly cleanups and volunteer programs. "They contribute a lot of hours to our residents here in our community," Baron said.

Finally, Mayor Davila presented a proclamation recognizing Nov. 10, 2025, as United States Marine Corps Day. A Marine identified as John accepted the proclamation and described birthday traditions for Marines, calling the observance a meaningful lead-in to Veterans Day.

The proclamations were followed by brief photo opportunities. The council then recessed to a closed session to discuss pending litigation.
