Board approves stadium, maintenance and coaching contracts; tables Route 41 flasher work

The Octorara Area School District Board on Oct. 20 approved several vendor proposals for stadium ticket booth completion and routine facilities work and approved a professional-services contract for mathematics instructional coaching.

Proposals approved for the stadium ticket booth completion included Mendenhall Trail Trades for $65,335; Spectra Electric for $18,539; White Renovations $2,450; Chester County Fencing $21,124.94; Weaver Mulch $551.25; and McAdam Company $1,730. The board also approved McAdam Company for seal coating and crack sealing at the Primary Learning Center playground ($6,590) and for line striping at the Primary Learning Center ($5,430).

The board approved a contract agreement with the Chester County Intermediate Unit for instructional coaching and consultative support for mathematics educators effective Aug. 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, at a cost of $94,850. During discussion a board member said, "I mean, it just seems like $900 a day is quite a bit," and administrators replied that the quoted rate is typical for the coaching model proposed (coverage of two days per week across the year).

Separately, the board reviewed a quote from Signal Service for Route 41 flashers conduit replacement at $19,753. A member moved to table that item until the district obtains a clearer scope of work; the motion to table was seconded and passed.

All contract approvals were passed by voice vote. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the meeting transcript for these votes. Administration said it would return with a scope of work for the Route 41 flashers item when available.
