Olentangy honors nearly 100 National Merit commended students and semifinalists

At the start of its Oct. 16 meeting, the Olentangy Local School District Board recognized students who placed as commended students and semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. Superintendent Todd Meyer and Board President Brandon Lester joined students onstage for photographs and remarks.
According to the presentation, 96 Olentangy students earned commended or semifinalist status based on preliminary-SAT scores; 69 were named commended scholars and 27 were named semifinalists. "Congratulations to these outstanding students, their families, and teachers," said the presenter as names were read.
Why it matters: National Merit recognition is a competitive, widely recognized academic honor that district leaders and the board cited as evidence of strong academic performance in Olentangy schools. The ceremony preceded the meeting's substantive business and drew community attendance.
The board then transitioned to facilities and enrollment discussions and the formal board meeting business.
