The district’s educational-technology specialists described a rebranded communications plan, a YouTube training channel with short instructional videos, a 'PD in a Box' subscription model and 'Learning in the Lounge' microlearning; early results include 1,300+ YouTube views, over 740 boxes distributed and roughly 120 hours of credited professional development.
Pearland ISD’s educational-technology specialists presented a rebranded, multi‑channel plan Nov. 11 to improve how the district shares tools and training with teachers across 23 campuses.
Dr. Adrienne Smith and her team described seven communication methods—three foundational channels (email with informational/action icons, a district Canvas repository, and Canvas tips) and four newer initiatives designed to increase engagement. Among the newer methods are "Learning in the Lounge," a nondigital microlearning display for staff break rooms; a quarterly EdTech Connect newsletter; a YouTube channel offering short (Paramount) and slightly longer (Paramount Plus) instructional videos; and a "PD in a Box" subscription that pairs short professional development with sponsored items.
The team reported initial outcomes after roughly three months: more than 1,300 YouTube views, distribution of over 740 PD boxes (about one in five teachers had signed up), and more than 120 hours of credited professional development among participating teachers. The presenters asked the board and community for sponsorships and grant partnerships to scale the program.
Trustees asked whether YouTube could be monetized to support the program; staff said monetization would require substantially more views and subscriptions and that they would research options. The board thanked the team for the presentation and encouraged staff to pursue partnerships and feasible sponsorship arrangements.
Next steps: EdTech staff will continue to track engagement metrics, pursue potential sponsorship or grant support for PD in a Box, and report results to the board.
